The
Jazz Lovers’ and More Jazz Clubs of the Villages, Florida, announce the 12th
annual Bob Washington Jazz Scholarship Award Program competition for jazz
instrumentalists and vocalists who are high school seniors, college
freshmen, or sophomores. We are keenly interested in those potential
applicants who are determined to advance their contribution to the preservation
and evolution of what is generally accepted, and defined, as “straight ahead”
jazz music.
This
year’s program will consist of six awards, totaling $8,250 as follows:
First
place:

$ 1,000

$ 750
Sixth
place:
$ 500
The
funds will be disbursed directly to the school or equipment provider as
warranted after proper documentation has been completed. (Please see
attachment.) The finals will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at
the Laurel Manor Recreation Center in The Villages. A rhythm section of
professional musicians will be provided. Finalists will only be
selected from CD’s to be submitted by the applicants. While there are no specifications as
to the diversity of the recorded material to be submitted, applicants should be
aware that at least two selections of different tempos are desired. In
addition, applications must be supplemented by at least one “Letter of
Reference” from a credible individual attesting to the applicant’s
musicianship, character, and seriousness of the intention to the continuation
of jazz studies. The references may be forwarded separately.
Applications must be received by midnight March 19, 2022. All applications
become the property of The Jazz Lovers' Club of The Villages, Inc.
