Singers SYNIA CARROLL & FRED JOHNSON
Join For "WHEN OCTOBER GOES"
Sunday Jazz in Ybor City, October 28
Two of our most dynamic jazz and world music vocalists, SYNIA CARROLL and FRED JOHNSON, will team up with the PHIL MAGALLANES TRIO on Sunday, October 28 at 3:00, in the Mainstage Theatre at HCC/Ybor City. Titled "When October Goes," the concert is presented by the Tampa Jazz Club as part of the HCC Visual and Performing Arts Series.
This will be the Tampa debut for SYNIA CARROLL, who has developed a strong following since moving to Sarasota four years ago. Originally from Philadelphia, she was active in the New York music scene before her career as an educator in Connecticut. Re-emerging into the jazz world in Florida, Synia released an acclaimed CD, "Here’s To You," in 2016 and has collaborated with the Bay Area’s top jazz artists. Paul Wilborn of The Palladium described her April appearance there as "absolutely magical."
FRED JOHNSON returns to the Mainstage after a concert in March that Music Fest News called "simply as good as it gets." Fred has toured with B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, and Chick Corea, and performed the encore at Corea’s recent solo concert in Clearwater. He’s recently back in town full-time after taking his message throughout the world for years, and listeners treasure every appearance.
SYNIA and FRED will be joined by an exciting new trio of veteran musicians, pianist PHIL MAGALLANES (recently touring with Al DiMeola) with bassist MICHAEL ROSS and drummer JAMES VARNADO. Don’t miss this afternoon with five of the most creative musicians around – it’s When October Goes, October 28 at HCC/Ybor City!
