Gold Coast Jazz Society 2017-18 Concert Season Announced - Seven Months of GREAT Jazz in Fort Lauderdale

Gold Coast Jazz Society -

The 2017-18 series includes jazz for all tastes featuring a host of talented jazz artists.  All concerts will be presented at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.   Full season subscriptions are available at a substantial discount from single ticket purchases and Jazz Trio subscriptions (3 concerts of your choice) are available by calling the Gold Coast Jazz Society at (954)524-0805. Single tickets for each concert are available at the Broward Center’s AutoNation Box Office at 954-462-0222 or online at www.browardcenter.org. Student and teacher tickets are $10 with valid ID for most concerts.

Rim Shots: An Evening with the Jeff Hamilton 
Jeff Hamilton, Tamir Hendelman and Christoph Luty comprise the Jeff Hamilton Trio whose recordings have received numerous awards. Hamilton, a bandleader and co-leader of the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra, has recorded or performed with Diana Krall, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, and countless others. Jazz Journal International says Hamilton is “a most driving and technically accomplished drummer,” and the Denver Post cheers that “he brought the crowd to its feet.”

Ann Hampton Callaway: Diva Power
Ann Hampton Callaway, leading champion of the Great American Songbook, has made her mark as a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host and producer. In this concert, Callaway presents a soaring celebration of the legendary ladies who helped shape the soundtrack of our lives- Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, Anita O ‘Day, Edith Piaf, Etta James, Carole King and Joni Mitchell. In this rare intimate setting, Callaway's one woman show takes a personal look at the iconic women who were trailblazers in music and whose careers, voices and songs helped to shape Callaway’s artistry.

Cyrille Aimée & the Shelly Berg Trio: Catch a Rising Star
French vocalist Cyrille Aimée has been called “a revelation” by the New York Daily News. The New York Times called her major label release, It’s a Good Day, “a bravura turn.”  Aimée’s vocals caught the attention of Stephen Sondheim, who cast her in an Encores Special Presentation starring Bernadette Peters at New York City’s City Center. Shelly Berg, Dean of the UM Frost School of Music, is an internationally recognized jazz pianist, composer, arranger and producer.

Love Songs and Lovers…The Ones You Have Forgotten
It’s Valentine’s Day! For the love of jazz join Willie Jones, drums; Terrell Stafford, trumpet; Robin Eubanks, trombone; Ralph Moore, sax; Eric Reed, piano, and Gerald Cannon, bass in a special night of jazz love songs and more! Jones is one of NYC’s most prominent drummers with an abiding musicality and a tonal personality that, as Wynton Marsalis puts it, is “ever tasteful.” Pianist Eric Reed, Jones’s frequent collaborator says Jones has a “West Coast swagger in his swing.” It will be a great night for lovin’ that jazz!

Loston Harris Trio:
Loston Harris Plays the Great American Songbook    
For more than a decade jazz pianist, Loston Harris, has headlined at the legendary Bemelmans Bar located in The Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan’s storied Upper East Side. This “home” is where a bevy of great cabaret and jazz greats have performed for decades. Harris tours regularly. He has also performed and toured with Wynton Marsalis and appeared worldwide on the PBS special "Portraits in Blue" with fellow pianist and Grammy Nominee, Marcus Roberts.

An Evening with the Four Freshmen
It all started in 1948, when four college freshmen crafted a unique style of vocal harmony that soon caught the ear of the great bandleader Stan Kenton. With over 75 albums, 70 top selling singles and 6 Grammy Nominations, this fab four have toured constantly since their inception, continuing to perform to sold-out audiences around the globe. The integrity of the sound created by the original guys has been meticulously maintained. Die-hard fans and former members alike have agreed that the current lineup; Bob Ferreira, Tommy Boynton, Stein Malvey and Curtis Calderon, are second to none.

Honoring the Great Ladies of Jazz 
Enjoy an evening of music honoring the great ladies of jazz featuring, Debbie Orta, Wendy Pedersen and Nicole Yarling - three of south Florida’s top female jazz vocalists – with  members of the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band, under the direction of Martin Hand. An exciting close to our 26th year of our concert series.
