A one-time only blockbuster
jazz show not to be missed!
Friday, April 7, 2017 ~ 8pm
Harry Allen and Grant Stewart are two of the finest players of swing tenor alive today. Both love the old tunes and play them with enthusiasm and a fresh sophistication. Palladium favorite, just back from a British Isles tour, Nate Najar on guitar adds his artistry to this performance along with the legendary John Lamb on bass and Matt Home on drums; all three joining Allen and Stewart to make this a show to remembered.
Allen, returning to the Palladium, has been described as the “Frank Sinatra of the tenor saxophone.” An ‘old-schooler, who is a master interpreter of jazz standards with over thirty recordings to his name, Allen was nominated for Best Jazz Combo by the Jazz Journalists Association.
Toronto native Grant Stewart is a hard-swinging tenor saxophonist steeped in the jazz tradition. His big burly sound and commanding sense of swing, lend itself well to his love of the Great American Songbook. Stewart has released sixteen recordings and has appeared on many others as a sideman.
The critics and cognoscenti agree: jazz guitarist Nate Najar’s virtuosity exudes a dynamic and truly intoxicating elegance. His artistry evokes a modern and progressive attitude that perpetuates the legacy of the great Charlie Byrd and emulates a collection of artistic musical influences including classical, bebop, fusion, bossa nova and even post- modern. Najar is a player whose sophistication and innovation has placed him in many of the world’s prestigious music venues and on superb recordings he’s produced.
