Jaco Pastorius Big Band
Monday, November 14, 2011 at 8pm
Sunrise Civic Center Theatre, Sunrise, Florida
Jaco Pastorius was one of the greatest jazz musicians of the 20th century. From his solo work to his accomplishments with Pat Metheny, Joni Mitchell, Weather Report, the Peter Graves Orchestra and Word of Mouth, Pastorius shattered the boundaries of the electric bass and redefined its role across the musical spectrum. Even his untimely death in 1987 did nothing to diminish Pastorius’ legacy of brilliant and innovative music. Today – as the Jaco Pastorius Big Band – a stellar lineup of musicians pays tribute to his freewheeling genius. Don’t miss their electric mix of big band swing and jazz.

"The award-winning HeadsUp recording artist, The Jaco Pastorius Big Band, invites you to join us on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 8pm for an evening of exciting contemporary big band jazz featuring the music of Jaco Pastorius, the world’s greatest bass player!
The evening will feature a number of new arrangements that we will be performing on our upcoming tour in Japan, which includes multiple performances at the legendary Blue Note in Tokyo and headlining the opening night of the first-ever Montreaux Jazz Festival in Kawasaki, Japan.
The band will be joined by special guest artist Damian Erskine on bass on this performance. Damian is a terrific new bassist on the jazz scene and just returned from a tour of Japan with Gino Vannilli.
In Japan , we will be joined by Damian, as well as his uncle…the legendary Peter Erskine on drums, and Richard Bona on bass. During our tour, we plan to record a new CD which we will be previewing on this performance at the Sunrise Civic Center Auditorium.
Hope to see you there…"
