In this compelling soundscape of Peggy Lee’s life, internationally acclaimed jazz singer
Cheryl Fisher
reimagines some of Miss Peggy’s most iconic songs, along with some lesser-known gems, with updated arrangements in a creative, engaging style true to the ground-breaking spirit of Peggy Lee. Peggy’s voice was a sultry, soulful sound that belonged to a true artistic trailblazer.
Hailed by the Montreal Jazz Festival as “one of the greatest female singers in the history of Canadian jazz,” Cheryl Fisher is also a composer and lyricist who has recorded six CDs under her own name. A Juno nominee and voted Best New Jazz Artist by the Alberta Recording Industry Association, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education (with distinction) from the University of Calgary and a Master’s degree in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami, where she also taught.
In addition to an international performing schedule, Cheryl is a respected jazz educator and has been on the dais of several North American jazz scholarship committees. Her live performances and recordings continue to receive glowing reviews for their originality, emotional depth, and outstanding technical excellence.
Her recordings feature the cream of the Canadian jazz scene, including such luminaries as Tommy Banks, P.J. Perry, Terry Clarke, Neil Swainson, and Reg Schwager, to name a few.
Her fifth CD, Moments Like This, pairs her with two genuine jazz legends: five-time Grammy Award nominee Ira Sullivan and Canadian Juno Award-winning pianist Oliver Jones. Fisher’s most recent CD, Quietly There, features Portland guitar great John Stowell and his trio, Scene, along with award-winning woodwind artist Eric Allison. Quietly There won a Global Music Award and was named one of the Top Ten jazz CDs in CKUA’s annual poll.
