We once again welcome retired USF School of Music Jazz Director (and Tampa Jazz Club Board Member) Jack Wilkinsback to the Mainstage Theatre at Hillsborough Colleges' Ybor City campus. Jack's just the right person for a rousing 95th birthday tribute to the "Saxophone Colossus" himself, tenor man Sonny Rollins. Rollins has been a massive influence with tenor players for decades with songs like "The Bridge" and albums such as "Tenor Madness." Joining Jack will be LaRue Nickelson on guitar, Per Danielsson on piano, Mark Neuenschwander on bass and Dave Hardman on drums.

The Tampa Jazz Club was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1995, with the objective of “generating interest in preserving, understanding and performing jazz.”
Founded by award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton and GRAMMY®-winning recording engineer J.D. Andrew,
The Boxmasters make their Clearwater debut at the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre.
Formed in 2006, The Boxmasters draw on a wide range of influences—especially 1960s rock & roll. You’ll hear nods to the Beatles, Byrds, and Beach Boys, along with The Mothers of Invention, The Allman Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, and Big Star.
As a touring band, The Boxmasters have opened for ZZ Top, Steve Miller, and George Thorogood, and have headlined major venues nationwide.
Their newest album, Pepper Tree Hill, channels British-Invasion colors—jangly guitars, Mellotrons, and solid backbeats—across songs of nostalgia, hope, and creative spark; its title track salutes the creative atmosphere the band thrives in.
The Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, located in downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District, was constructed in 1921 and is one of Florida’s oldest operating theaters.
In 2023, industry trade publication Pollstar named the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre the #1 club venue in Tampa, #1 in Florida, #1 in the United States, and #1 in the world among club venues with 800 seats or less.
A complete $10 million renovation was completed in 2013. In 2019, Nancy and David Bilheimer donated $2.5 million to Ruth Eckerd Hall as part of the theatre’s “Expanding the Experience” capital campaign; in recognition, the venue was renamed the Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre.
With smash originals such asI Drink Alone,Move It On Over andBad To The Bone,George Thorogood & The Destroyersreturn to Ruth Eckerd Hall for The Baddest Show On Earth with special guestArtimus Pyle Band- Honoring Ronnie Van Zant’s Lynyrd Skynyrd featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd DrummerArtimus Pyle,Bo Bice,Barry Lee Harwood,Shannon Wickline,Jerry Lyda, andScott Raines!
It’s not bragging if it’s fact: For the past five decades – which the band celebrated with last year’s triumphant Bad All Over The World: 50 Years Of Rock Tour – George Thorogood & The Destroyers have dominated any given stage, including their landmark performance at Live Aid and 50 States/50 Days Tour; opening club gigs for Muddy Waters and stadium shows for The Rolling Stones; last summer’s top-selling tour with John Fogerty; and remaining one of the most reliable/formidable concert acts in the world with the past few years alone covering 17 countries across 3 continents including Europe and Australia. “We recognize that 50 years is a major achievement,” says George. “That’s because every show we play is 100% amp-blasting, roof-shaking rock party. And the best way to say ‘thank you’ is to make the new tour bigger and better than ever.”

Ruth Eckerd Hall, located in Clearwater, FL, was founded in 1977 when a 38-acre parcel of land was donated to the City of Clearwater by June Baumgardner Gelbart in honor of Richard B. Baumgardner, Sr., with the condition that the land be used for a performing arts center. Local philanthropist Jack Eckerd donated to the cause and purchased naming rights for the venue for his beloved Ruth. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held in 1979 and the Hall was completed in October 1983, opening on October 16, 1983, with the first official performance featuring the Suzuki Children of Japan. Designed by the prestigious Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Ruth Eckerd Hall is a 73,000 square-foot facility that features a 2,180 seat auditorium, the Margarete Heye Great Room Banquet facility, administration offices and the Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts which includes: three studio classrooms, four private teaching studios, the Michael & Joan Kline Dance Studio, the Henrietta Campbell Rehearsal Studio, the Challener-Morrow Production Studios, a visual arts learning lab and the recently renovated 250-seat Murray Theatre.
Miami-based ensemble Cortadito will headline the City of Casselberry’s
Latin Jazz & Art Festival 2025 on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 4–9 p.m. in the city’s biggest concert of the year. A traditional folk/acoustic group performing early Cuban country styles, Cortadito’s sound recalls the spirit of the Buena Vista Social Club. The group will be joined by
Grammy and Latin Grammy award-winning singer
Aymée Nuviola. Opening act will be Dimas Sanches and the Latin Jazz Project. Also, Nestor Torres will be a featured special guest this evening!
In May 2025, the group released its first full-length album,
The Guajiro Triangle — nine original compositions celebrating Cuban traditions in the modern world. The “triangle” nods to the musical connection between Santiago de Cuba, Havana, and Miami, the band’s home.

Trumpeter James Suggs opens Tampa Jazz Club's new season of shows at HC Ybor Mainstage with a tribute to the Great American Songbook master, George Gershwin. Expect to hear classics like "Summertime," "Embraceable You," and more as interpreted by the innovative trumpeter. James has been a galvanizing figure on the Tampa Bay jazz scene for a decade. His tributes to Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong have all been warmly received and performed multiple times. This is the first time he's played the Gershwin tribute in Tampa. Joining James will be Alejandro Arenas on bass, Patrick Bettison on keyboards, and Jean Bolduc on drums.
James Suggs began his musical journey at age nine and turned professional by his mid-teens in Northeast Ohio, earning a spot touring internationally with the Continental Singers. He earned his bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from Youngstown State University and, after working aboard cruise ships and performing with the Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey orchestras, spent eight years in Buenos Aires teaching and performing with jazz and Latin groups.
In 2018, he completed a Master of Music in jazz performance at the University of South Florida and joined its faculty, directing jazz ensembles and teaching trumpet. His 2019 debut album, You’re Gonna Hear From Me, recorded at the iconic Van Gelder Studio, reached #16 on the national jazz chart and gained global radio and airline playlist exposure.

Jazz & Blues Florida was on the road in New England this week and caught a true grassroots blues experience at The Chicken Shack at The Farm at Carter Hill in Marlborough, CT. The event was part of the Connecticut Blues Society Blues Jam Summer Series, held the first Thursday of every month from May through September.
This month’s featured guest was Garry Segal, an accomplished guitarist and harmonica player with deep roots in the Connecticut blues scene. After years in Arizona, this marked his first Connecticut appearance in several years. His return was met with a warm welcome from fans and fellow musicians alike. He's back in CT for this special one-night-only show!
Backed by the CTBS All-Stars—River City Slim, Phil Caron, and Joey Primo—Segal stepped right back into the groove, showcasing the tone, touch, and stage presence that made him a fixture with both the Albert Otis Blues Band and Garry & The Moodswingers.
The venue itself, affectionately known as The Chicken Shack, is a rustic barn with both indoor and outdoor seating, great food, and a full bar. The vibe is relaxed, the music is top-shelf, and the doors are wide open for jammers with instruments in hand. PA, drums, amps, and keys are all provided—just bring your talent.
