The Kelly/Scott Jazztet returns for a special evening of holiday jazz following a well-received appearance last year. This engaging group presents artfully original arrangements of Christmas songs and seasonal favorites, with influences from classical and jazz styles including swing, Brazilian Bossa Nova, gospel shuffles, expressive ballads, light funk, bebop, and New Orleans grooves.
The ensemble features multi-award-winning jazz vocalist Lisa Kelly, former New Orleans and Miami Latin trumpeter JB Scott, pianist/guitarist Jeff Phillips, UNF collegiate bassist Corbin Schmidt, and UF drum artist and professor Clyde Connor. Their individual careers include performances with the Larry Elgart Orchestra, the New York Pops, the St. Johns River City Band, Walt Disney World theme parks, the Dukes of Dixieland, and the Navy Commodores in Washington, D.C.
These accomplished artists have appeared at jazz clubs, corporate programs, major concert halls, and jazz festivals, touring and recording together for audiences from regional stages to international settings. The program includes selections from their new recording, Artfully Christmas, with titles such as “What Child Is This,” “Counting Your Blessings,” “Winter Wonderland,” “We Three Kings,” and “The Christmas Song.” CDs will be available for purchase at the concert.
