Brazilian Big Band
FACEBOOK EVENT - Invite your friends!

Gafieira Rio Miami fuses samba, jazz, and soul inspired by the joyous, 20th-century Rio de Janeiro ballroom dance music known as samba de gafieira. The band revives the gafieira style, and adds funk grooves and jazz improvisation. Its live repertoire includes gorgeous arrangements of classics by Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Caetano Veloso, Jorge Benjor, Alcione, Wilson das Neves, Moacir Santos, and others. The concert will feature lead vocalist Isa Duarte, 2X Latin GRAMMY winning percussionist Tony Succar, and world renowned samba dancers Eric and Abigail Celestino.

About Gafieira Rio Miami
Gafieira Rio Miami, created by Brazilian Latin Grammy-winner Diogo Brown, revives the soul of gafieira, a vibrant Brazilian cultural phenomenon from the '40s and '50s. Gafieira, originating from Rio de Janeiro, is more than just a music style, it was a lifestyle. These gafieiras, where elements of big band samba, waltzes, and tangos melded into a unique rhythm, were sanctuaries for expression, defying societal norms of the time.

Diogo Brown's vision materialized in 2002, when he assembled an eclectic 11-piece band, Gafieira Rio Miami, blending Brazilian roots with international influences. The band's music director explains that gafieira isn't confined to a single genre, it encompasses diverse styles like chorinho, pagode, and maxixe. Gafieira Rio Miami transcends borders, uniting musicians from Venezuela, Cuba, Brazil, and the United States, infusing the music with rich cultural diversity.
