Guitarist LaRue Nickelson, one of the Bay Area’s pre-eminent musicians, will present an afternoon of original music with his 7-piece band at HCC/Ybor City on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 3:00. These monthly Tampa Jazz Club concerts, part of HCC’s Visual & Performing Arts Series, are held in the Mainstage Theater.

For years, Bay Area listeners have appreciated Nickelson’s imaginative and individual sound. He is featured regularly with top area artists, and since 2000 has taught at USF and been part of Chuck Owen’s renowned Jazz Surge. He’s also a prolific composer, and the January concert will be a rare chance to hear his recent original music, with some of LaRue’s favorite collaborators.

Along with the leader’s guitar, the LaRue Nickelson Group includes Daniel Jordan, sax/flute; Robert Harrover, trombone; Scott Dickinson, trumpet; Cole Hazlitt, vibraphone; Mark Neuenschwander, bass; and Walt Hubbard, drums.
