THE STAMPS JAZZ & WINDS QUINTETS
The Faena Jazz Series kicks off on January 15th 2025 with the reknowned musician/composer/educator Paquito D’Rivera in an historical performance with two of the Frost School of Music’s outstanding student ensembles: the Stamps Jazz Quintet and the Stamps Wind Quintet.

Born in Cuba and a founding member of supergroup Irakere, D’Rivera is one of those rare players equally fluent in jazz and classical music.  He has won a combined 16 Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards and has released more than 30 solo albums.

The Stamps Jazz and Wind Quintets are two unique ensembles at the Frost School of Music. Each group is supported through the generosity of the Stamps Scholars Program, with each group hosting five exceptional young artists of the highest caliber. Together, these students form a working quintet for the length of their tenure at the Frost School of Music.

Paquito and the Stamps Wind Quintet will be performing D’Rivera’s Aires Tropicales, a classical piece dedicated to various genres of Latin music.  The Jazz Quintet will be performing D’Rivera’s jazz repertoire as exemplified by his touring quintet.
