Chez L’Amour presents an incredible special evening of world-class jazz with guitar legend Jack Peterson, featured with the Kelly/Scott Jazz 5tet. A prolific pianist, composer, arranger, music publisher, educator and improv pioneer, Jack Petersen is the “Founding Father” architect of jazz guitar and improv pedagogy.  He established and directed the three highly esteemed guitar programs of Berklee College of Music, University of North Texas, and the University of North Florida with Rich Matteson, creating the modern jazz guitar chord voicing techniques published in his 1st book, Chords Galore. His early playing influences rooted in Charlie Christian, Western swing bands, Les Paul, Herb Ellis, Tal Farlow, Barry Gailbraith, and Chicago pianist Larry Novak. Jack’s extraordinary career of playing, recording, and touring has spanned over 70 years and includes the 8th U.S. Army Band, Stan Kenton, Larry Elgart Orchestra, Peggy Lee, Billy Taylor, Lena Horne, Dave Brubeck, Randy Brecker, Louie Belson, Rufus Reid, Nancy Wilson, Henri Mancini, Doc Severinsen, St. Johns River City Band, and countless notables.

Jack will share his creative music legacy through his beautiful playing on March 15th, 7-10pm, at Chez L’Amour.“ At 90 years young, Jack Peterson is still a player’s player! Lush harmonic voicing, swinging melodies (with a hint of Texas drawl), and an improvisational fountain of ideas which reflect 70 years of playing with/teaching many jazz greats. If you were not lucky enough to grow up in the heyday of New York’s legendary bebop jazz clubs, here’s your chance to see an authentic performance by a beloved guitar hero!

“A beautifully, lyrical player of masterful creativity, harmonic depth, and an endless knowledge of great tunes!”
- Howard Paul, President/CEO, Benedetto Guitars

“A true jazz legend, influencing generations and genres of guitarists!”
 - James Hogan, pro guitar artist.

The Kelly/Scott 5tet will bring together five highly regarded jazz artists from around Florida who’ve worked with Jack Petersen over the years: Jax. Jazz Fest “Hall of Fame” Inductees, vocalist Lisa Kelly, his former student at UNF, and JB Scott, Director of UNF JE 1 and the program’s 1st jazz graduate in 1989, pianist Jeff Phillips, Walt Disney World bassist Jay Mueller, and former Navy Commodores drummer, Clyde Connor.

The evening’s entertaining music sets will feature Jack Petersen playing works from Charlie Christian, Hank Mobley, Clifford Brown, Django Reinhardt, A.C. Jobim, and more, in styles of classic swing, Bossa Nova, Samba, light funk, Blues, ballads, and shuffles. Benedetto Signature Guitar artist Jack Petersen plays a 1992 Fratello Model Benedetto guitar.
