A night of swinging holiday jazz, this annual concert is celebrating its 13th year of full houses and memorable music. Guests include Brazilian singer Daniela Soledade, adding a bossa nova twist to the celebration, while New York’s Adrian Cunningham, a star on the swing music circuit, adds trumpet and flute. Along with Soledade and Cunningham, this year’s ensemble features Bruce Harris on trumpet, and Russ Phillips on trombone. The ensemble also features Joe Porter on bass, Patrick Bettison on piano, and Jean Bolduc, drums.

Downbeat Magazine calls her a “master of classic samba and bossa nova.” Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, vocalist/guitarist Daniela Soledade grew up in a family of musicians with a direct line to the origins of Bossa Nova. Daniela’s grandfather was Paulo Soledade, who composed songs with legendary Brazilian artists Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho and Baden Powell.
Guitarist Nate Najar is making it known world-wide that he is one of this decade’s finest modern jazz exponents, and not by saying it, but rather playing it. He uses a distinctive technique to convey his artistic prowess- not many artists play acoustic classical guitar with right hand classical technique, yet it is the perfect choice for Najar’s comprehensive approach. Not restricted to single notes or chords, Nate seamlessly weaves melody, harmony and rhythmic freedom. The result is music that is swinging, emotional, inventive and interesting.
