The Sunshine Jazz Concert Series welcomes back dear friend and highly acclaimed singer, songwriter, educator, actress, activist and “Jazz Ambassador”, Brenda Alford! Ms. Alford will be accompanied by her fabulous band featuring Jesse Jones, Jr. on sax, Jaui Schneider – piano, Paul Shewchuk – bass, and Lenny Steinberg – drums.
Originally from Baltimore, MD, Brenda was personally encouraged to become a professional vocalist by Ms. Ella Fitzgerald, and counted Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, and Abbey Lincoln among her many fans and encouragers. She has the distinction of being one of very few vocalists ever to record with renown jazz legend Horace Silver on the esteemed Blue Note Record Label. Alford's varied musical performance configurations have ranged from a cappella to a sixty-piece orchestra, and her repertoire includes, jazz, gospel, pop, R&B, and blues. Brenda has shared the stage with numerous jazz legends including Slide Hampton, Tommy Flanagan, Pete Minger, Keter Betts, Philly Joe Jones and Stanley Turrentine.
