TAMPA JAZZ CLUB PRESENTS SAXOPHONIST
JACK WILKINS
CD-RELEASE CONCERT WITH ALL-STAR BAND –
Sunday, April 28 at HCC/Ybor City
Saxophonist JACK WILKINS will debut his brand-new
CD in a Tampa Jazz Club concert at the Mainstage Theatre of HCC/Ybor
City, on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. The longtime Director of Jazz
Studies at University of South Florida will lead an all-star group of
colleagues from throughout the country, playing music drawn from his
recent experience as Fulbright Research Chair at the University of
Calgary. “The Rundle Sessions” is inspired by the “people, places,
and vibe” of the Province of Alberta, Canada, and presents the
signature sound listeners have heard on Wilkins’ other recent
releases “The Blue & Green Project” and “The Banff
Project.”
As on those albums, the band includes New York-based violinist
SARA CASWELL (2018 Grammy nominee) and Utah-based guitarist COREY
CHRISTIANSEN, creative players who blend remarkably with Wilkins’
horn. The sextet also features drummer MICHAEL W. DAVIS, from New
York, and Jack’s collaborators of many years, pianist PER DANIELSSON
and bassist MARK NEUENSCHWANDER.
As an educator, JACK WILKINS has been a renowned proponent of
international experience for students and faculty, and he has led USF
ensembles on summer tours to several European countries and to South
Africa. His concerts celebrating the release of “The Blue & Green
Project” and “The Banff Project” were among the most memorable Bay
Area jazz events in recent years, and the Tampa Jazz Club is proud to
present the premiere performance of “The Rundle Sessions,” performed
by this great band in the Mainstage Theatre in Ybor City!
