The SJO is very pleased to welcome back dear friend and fabulous songstress Carole Ann Taylor as our featured artist for the monthly Sunshine Jazz Concert Series presented at Miami Shores Country Club!
As a younger musician from New York, Carole Ann Taylor performed around NYC, Albany, the Catskills, Washington, D.C., Cleveland and Miami as well as engagements in the The U.S. Virgin Islands. Among her career highlights, she was the recipient of a 5 year contract from Duke Ellington in 1970, and studied under Ellington’s vocal coach, Luther Henderson. Taylor took a 25 year hiatus while raising her family, then becoming very involved in business developments and politics. Taylor was one of five women to receive the 2015 International Women’s Day Award, honoring women who have made significant contributions in advancing international trade and business in Florida.
Ms. Taylor has performed with numerous Jazz greats including Lionel Hampton, Cedar Walton, Buck Clayton, Buddy Tate, Bobby Watson, Curtis Lundy, Jim Gasior and Tal Cohen as well as several South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame recipients - Pete Minger, Eric Knight, Billy Rolle, Jimmy Crawford, Don Mosely, Bobby Thomas, Jr. and Ray Ray. Taylor’s many Miami appearances include the former Playboy Club, The Mutiny and Jazid, and she currently performs at the Betsy Hotel on Miami Beach.
