Virtuoso Pianist Presented by Tampa Jazz Club
For their next Sunday afternoon concert in the Mainstage
Theatre at HCC/Ybor City, the Tampa Jazz Club is proud to present An
Afternoon with Dick Hyman. The incomparable pianist, named an NEA
Jazz Master two years ago, will play a solo concert on April 7 at
3:00 p.m. as part of the HCC Visual & Performing Arts Series.
In a career spanning seven decades, Dick Hyman has made his
mark in virtually every style of jazz and popular music. From touring
Europe with Benny Goodman in his early 20’s, to a prolific studio
career and years as Music Director for NBC radio and television
shows; from researching and recording the music of ragtime and early
jazz piano masters, to pioneering synthesizer work that has been
sampled by Kendrick Lamar and other hip-hop artists; from providing
the scores to a dozen Woody Allen films along with “Moonstruck” and
others, to Broadway, chamber and orchestral music.
In a life filled with many artistic collaborations, there is
still nothing like a concert featuring Dick Hyman alone at the piano,
playing standards of jazz and American popular song, along with his
originals. Most recently, he thrilled a sold-out audience at the
Sarasota Jazz Festival, on the day following his 92nd
birthday. Listeners in Tampa have a rare opportunity to hear Dick
Hyman in concert, when he returns to the beautiful Mainstage in Ybor
City, on Sunday, April 7.

purpose of the meeting will be to elect Tampa Jazz Club directors.
