The Reverend Shawn Amos!
The North Central Florida Blues Society presents another
FIRST in FLORIDA! This upcoming performance will be the
debut CLUB show in Florida for this amazing bluesman!
Opening Show:
Sunday, January 28, 2018 ~ Doors 6pm / Show 6:30pm
The Reverend Shawn Amos is a Los Angeles-based, chart-topping bluesman ready to turn any venue into a 1960’s Chicago blues club. His foot stomping, harp-wailing performances. like tent revivals of yore, energize the faithful, and convert the wayward to the Rev’s message of booty-shakin’, deeply joyful blues.
The Rev came up in 1970s Los Angeles, at the feet of musical legends like Marvin Gaye and Quincy Jones, as well as all manner of Hollywood street folk. The son of music agent-turned entrepreneur, Wally “Famous” Amos, and R&B nightclub singer, Shirlee May, Shawn found music early, and has worked within it his entire adult life. His rich career as a producer includes overseeing new music and retrospectives from R&B blues legends Solomon Burke, John Lee Hooker, and Johnny “Guitar” Watson, and scores of other legacy acts. This Reverend doesn’t preach chastity but genuine love and lust that makes the world whole.
“Being a blues singer means having a journey of pain and loss,” says Shawn Amos. “But the music itself is all about joy, about finding your way out of the darkness.”
No Depression magazine said “This band is gritty at times and also takes us back to stompin’ grooves that are reminiscent of that R&B that was made famous by the legendary Muscle Shoals bands. Yet at other times the pulsing boogie they produce won’t let a fanny remain quiet and still in its chair.”
Also enriching this fine evening will be the High Dive debut of The Shakedown featuring Michelle Banfield. Some of you caught Michelle sing with Chicago Blues performer Zora Young, and some may know her from her years with Fast Lane. Be aware that her new band The Shakedown is blessed with some fantastic instrumental talent as well: Frank Bougher is on lead guitar, Keith Ladd on bass, Sean Crowley on drums, and Randy Hensley is on keys and guitar.
