BRAZILIAN MUSIC INSTITUTE:
The University of Florida’s (UF) Brazilian Music Institute
(BMI), now in its seventeenth year, will gather outstanding Brazilian musicians
for an intensive week of instruction May 22-27, 2017. Thanks in part to a grant
from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, BMI will expand its reach and
impact through a partnership with Broward College to bring BMI to South
Florida. This year’s BMI, taking place at Broward College, provides unique
opportunities for singers, guitarists, percussionists, drummers, pianists and
other instrumentalists to study with exceptional musicians such as: Sinhô
Francisco, Cesinha, Ulisses Rocha,Welson Tremura, Larry Crook, Vadim Arsky,
Alex Berti, Jason Hainsworth, Mike Orta, Scott Wilson, Beatriz Malnic, and the
Brazilian Voices. BMI features daily rehearsals and group lessons in Brazilian
instrumental music as well as concluding concerts on Friday, May 26, 2017 in
Bailey Hall (Davie) and Saturday May 27 at Bayside in Miami entitled Terra Brazil meets Jazz featuring the guest
artists and selected BMI participants. We hope you will join us for a week of
some of the best of Brazilian music.
WORKSHOP INFO:
The 2017 Brazilian Music Institute will take place at
Broward College in Davie, Florida, May 22-27, 2017. Students and community
members are invited to participate. Enrollment for the 2017 Brazilian Music
Institute is limited, so register today. The cost to participate is $200.
Scholarships are available!
Mornings feature all faculty and workshop participants. From
10-11 a.m. there are individual workshops and from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. there are
group meetings/rehearsals. The afternoons feature faculty and selected workshop
participants. Finally, rehearsals for the concluding show are from 1:30-4 p.m.
Everyday attendance is not mandatory for general workshop participants;
however it will be required for those who will be performing with the faculty
artists in the final concert.
