SYMPOSIUM INFORMATION

International Gathering of Jazz
Composers, Musicians, Scholars,
Students and Industry Professionals

May 18-20, 2017
University of South Florida
School of Music

Tampa, FL 33620

The 2017 Jazz Composers’ Symposium will bring jazz composers and arrangers of all backgrounds together to the University of South Florida campus to learn, discover, and share in a vibrant and interactive environment. This year’s event will feature new music reading sessions, panel discussions, research presentations, and musical performances by John Hollenbeck’s Claudia Quintet, the Billy Childs Quartet,  Maria Schneider, Rufus Reid and Chuck Owen & the Jazz Surge.

ISJAC, in collaboration with the University of South Florida School of Music, is delighted to serve as host of the revival of the “International Jazz Composers‘ Symposium,” May 18-20, 2017. An unparalleled gathering of jazz composers, musicians, scholars, students, and industry professionals from across the world; this unique forum offers attendees the opportunity to connect with fellow jazz composers as well as celebrated master artists while becoming exposed to a variety of new works, concepts, and related music industry trends. In addition, an open application and call for scores/papers will offer attendees several avenues in which to share and showcase their own work: via featured concert performance, guest artist master classes, research paper presentations, and the JCS’ unique “poster sessions.”

Major concerts take place each evening, including JOHN HOLLENBECK & the CLAUDIA QUINTET on May 18, and the BILLY CHILDS QUARTET on May 19.

Taking place in the USF School of Music's impressive new facility/concert halls located just north of downtown Tampa, the Symposium offers those in attendance two and a half days of almost non-stop, diverse events. Located nearby major theme parks and renowned beaches, the area offers numerous recreational opportunities.
