Christine Jensen
Monday, November 21st; 7:30 PM USF Concert Hall University of South Florida
An exciting evening of contemporary orchestral jazz is in store at the next Monday Night Jazz concert, when saxophonist and composer CHRISTINE JENSEN appears with the USF JAZZ ENSEMBLE, on Monday, November 21 in the beautiful USF Concert Hall. This is the 21st season for Monday Night Jazz, a 5-concert series presented by the USF School of Music and The Tampa Jazz Club.
Based in Montreal, CHRISTINE JENSEN is recognized as one of the truly original voices on the international jazz scene. She has recorded and toured prolifically for the past couple of decades, often with her sister, the famed trumpeter Ingrid Jensen. Her current jazz orchestra was first heard on the disc, 'Treelines,' with innovative and exciting music depicting the beauty of Canada's pristine environment. The release won the Juno Award -- Canada's top prize in music -- for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, and was termed by Downbeat 'a stunning orchestral debut.'
And CHRISTINE JENSEN is equally impressive as a much in-demand saxophonist. "I'm pretty lucky because composing has given me long-term growth, while improvising involves seizing the moment," she says. "Combining these two elements is the beauty of being a contemporary jazz artist."
At the November 21 concert, CHRISTINE JENSEN will lead the 18-piece USF JAZZ ENSEMBLE, the renowned band that each year represents the top tier of jazz students at USF. An important part of Monday Night Jazz is the interaction that takes place in clinics, master classes, and performances during the brief residency with each visiting artist on campus.
CHRISTINE JENSEN is a widely traveled artist, who has taken her music all over the world. Please join us for her debut performance in our community, at Monday Night Jazz!
