The monthly Sunshine Jazz Concert Series continues on the fourth Sunday in November with an incomparable performance by premier South Florida pianist, Michael Gerber. The highly respected musician will be joined by a very special guest, multi-instrumentalist and South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame Inductee, Ira Sullivan. The world class ensemble will take the stage at Miami Shores Country Club on November 27, 2016 from 6pm - 9pm.
A native of St. Louis, Michael Gerber was born blind and with only one ear, however these challenges have not prevented him from a long career which began at the age of two and a half. His youth was devoted to classical music but in his late teens Gerber discovered jazz and developed a love for improvisation that flourishes today. He never ceases to wow audiences and has played with many jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Jaco Pastorius and Ron Carter. “…his technique is on the level of an Oscar Peterson or Art Tatum,” says trumpeter Arturo Sandoval…He has so many ideas and endless imagination…”
Mike Gerber’s knowledge and style of improvisation are matched only by his technical mastery, and the result is a depth, scope and intensity that few pianists ever achieve. We can surely expect a superb evening of magnificent music. The Mike Gerber Quartet will feature Michael Gerber on Piano, special guest, Jazz master Ira Sullivan on Sax and Flute, Bassist Ethan Neuberg and Emily Maddox on Drums.
