“The Genius of Modern Piano.” - Wynton Marsalis
“His combination of talent, ambition, discipline, stylistic openness and resourcefulness suggest that he is a remarkable musician—perhaps even a phenomenon…” - Michael West, Jazz Times
Marcus Roberts lost his sight when he was just 5 years old. But that didn’t stop him from becoming one of the top pianists of his generation. A prodigious talent, Roberts landed his first recording contract at age 15. At age 21 he began touring with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Band. After six years with Marsalis, he left to tour to record with his own band. Roberts’ critically-acclaimed legacy of recorded music reflects his tremendous versatility as an artist; his recordings include solo piano, duets, and trio arrangements of jazz standards as well as original suites of music. In 2014, Marcus Roberts was honored to have his life and work featured on a segment of the celebrated CBS News television show 60 Minutes. The show, entitled “The Virtuoso”, traced Roberts’ life to date from his early roots in Jacksonville and at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind to his remarkable career as a modern jazz musician.
