1940’s New York Jazz Scene
The music scene in New York City during the 1940’s was very robust. Broadway was staging the works of great American composers like Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Kurt Weil, Oscar Hammerstein, and Leonard Bernstein, to name a few. Many of the songs from these musicals became popular and were recorded as singles by a variety of singers and instrumentalists. Learn More & Tickets

Jazz Violinist Sara Caswell & The FIU Jazz Faculty Ensemble
NYC-based jazz violinist Sara Caswell and the FIU Faculty Jazz Ensemble present an evening of avant-garde music. Recognized as a “Rising Star” in both the 2013 and 2014 DownBeat MagazineCritics Poll and as one of the top jazz violinists in both the 2011 and 2012JazzTimes Readers’ Poll, Sara’s two groups (the Sara Caswell Quartet and the Caswell Sisters Quintet) have been heard in venues ranging from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club to college & university concert halls nationwide.
