Guitarist, composer, author and educator Jon Oxford brings more than two decades of professional performance and teaching experience to the stage. For this performance, Oxford leads a jazz trio featuring Marco Bojorquez on bass and Greg Parnell on drums, bringing together three musicians in the classic guitar, bass and drums format.
Oxford's career combines live performance, jazz composition, instrumental instruction and music education. As a freelance guitarist, he has performed with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including the Sam Rivers Rejuvenation Orchestra, connecting his work to the musical legacy of the influential jazz saxophonist, composer and bandleader.
Currently serving as Director of Instrumental Activity at Eastern Florida State College, Oxford oversees the college's Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra and Community Orchestra. His responsibilities reflect a broad background in instrumental music, encompassing jazz and orchestral performance, ensemble direction and music education.
Previously, Oxford served as an Instructor of Jazz at Stetson University, where he contributed to the development of the university's Jazz Ensemble and developed and taught courses in Jazz History, Jazz Theory and Advanced Conducting. His teaching experience reflects an emphasis on both the practical and academic foundations of jazz, from instrumental performance and improvisation to music theory and historical study.
Oxford's formal education includes a Master of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Central Florida. He also holds an Associate in Arts degree from Eastern Florida State College and an Associate of Applied Science in Recording Arts from Full Sail University, adding technical recording knowledge to his background in music performance and education.
Beyond the classroom and concert stage, Oxford is a published author whose instructional works include The Organized Guitarist and Rhythmic Elements of the Jazz Language. These publications extend his educational contributions to guitarists and jazz students seeking to develop their technical skills, musical understanding and command of jazz rhythm.
