Althea René
Contemporary jazz flutist Althea René brings her expressive performance style to Smooth Sessions at Blue Bamboo on June 6, 2026, at Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts in Winter Park. A Detroit native whose musical background was influenced by the city’s Motown and funk traditions through family connections to members of the Funk Brothers, René has built an international reputation as a recording and touring artist blending contemporary jazz, R&B, funk, and soul.
Over a recording career spanning more than two decades, René has released multiple albums as a leader while also appearing as a featured guest artist on numerous projects. Known for helping elevate the flute as a lead instrument in contemporary jazz, she has earned national radio airplay and chart recognition while performing for audiences throughout the United States and internationally.
Blue Bamboo’s intimate listening-room setting provides an ideal environment to experience René’s warm stage presence and dynamic live performance style up close in a focused concert atmosphere.
Smooth Sessions at Blue Bamboo is a four-part contemporary jazz series presented May through August 2026 at Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts in Winter Park. The series features nationally recognized contemporary jazz artists performing in a seated listening-room environment designed for attentive audiences and high-quality acoustics.
