American singer-songwriter ZZ Ward returns to Clearwater! One of the most profound lessons she learned from growing up listening to the blues greats was to stay authentic to her story. When the LA-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist began writing new music, she found herself in the midst of one of life’s biggest changes: motherhood.

The resulting music is her most honest and blues-infused work to date. Freed from the pop pressures of her previous major label, ZZ fully embraces the blues—her most formative influence. Her Sun Records debut, Liberation, features a collection of originals and reimagined blues favorites delivered in her distinctive style. Encompassing greasy Chicago blues, foot-stomping Delta blues, rootsy garage rock, and vintage soul, the album plays like a ZZ-curated survey of the genre. The 14-track album was produced by multi-platinum producer Ryan Spraker (Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Weezer, In This Moment).

ZZ’s first single, “Put The Gun Down,” from her 2012 debut Til the Casket Drops, broke into the AAA Radio Charts Top 10 and remained there for 10 weeks. It was followed by the single “365 Days,” which reached #2 on the same chart. Til the Casket Drops also entered the Billboard Top 40 Alternative Chart. Her sophomore album, The Storm, released in 2017, peaked at #1 on the Billboard Blues Charts and featured collaborations with GRAMMY® Award winners Fantastic Negrito and Gary Clark Jr. The album included the track “Ride,” which was also used as the end-title song for Pixar’s feature film Cars 3. Most recently, ZZ was personally selected by Slash to open for his blues tour this past summer.

The Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, located in downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District, was constructed in 1921 and is one of Florida’s oldest operating theaters. In 2023, industry trade publication Pollstar named the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre the #1 club venue in Tampa, #1 in Florida, #1 in the United States and #1 in the world, of club venues with 800 seats or less. In 2013, the theater underwent a complete $10 million renovation and is the catalyst for downtown development. In 2019, Nancy and David Bilheimer donated $2.5 million to Ruth Eckerd hall as part of the theatre’s ongoing “Expanding the Experience” Capital campaign.  In recognition of the generous donation, the Capitol Theatre’s name was changed to the Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre.
