Latin Jazz & Art Fest

The Pedrito Martinez Group will headline Casselberry’s Latin Jazz and Art Festival on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Lake Concord Park behind City Hall at 95 Triplet Lake Drive.

Martinez, born in Havana, Cuba and began his music career at the age of 11, is a multiple Grammy-nominated drummer who has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Sting and contributed to more than 100 albums. Marsalis said this about Martinez: “Pedrito is a genius. … Working with him has been a revelation to me.”

Just a few years ago, Martinez and legendary guitarist and singer Eric Clapton recorded a newly arranged version of Clapton’s song “My Father’s Eye” for Martinez’s album. They then toured throughout the United States together.

Martinez’s career as a leader began in 2005 with the formation of his band and self-titled album released in 2013. That album was nominated for a Grammy and was chosen among NPR’s Favorite Albums of the Year and the Boston Globe critics Top Ten Albums of 2013.

Before Martinez hits the stage, Venezuelan singer and cuatro player Juan Carlos Salazar will perform. Salazar has played more than 20 years and has 12 solo albums. He’s performed with Julio Iglesias, Maria Teresa Chacin and Hernan Gamboa, among others.

Besides the music, there will a be a Latin Art Exhibit at City Hall entitled “Raices” (Roots). This colorful exhibit will feature Florida’s most renowned Latin Artists.

Annual Craft Beer & Blues Festival

Legendary singer/songwriter Dana Fuchs makes her return to Casselberry at the free Craft Beers and Blues Festival on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at Lake Concord Park from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m.

Born in New Jersey in 1976, she later moved with her family to the small rural town of Wildwood, Florida. In the late '90s, Dana Fuchs made a name for herself in the New York blues scene. Her journey to stardom began when she portrayed Janis Joplin in an off-Broadway musical, showcasing her incredible charisma and the raw power of her voice. This catapulted her into a multifaceted career that included successful blues-rock album releases, extensive touring in the U.S. and Europe, and a memorable role in the 2007 Beatles-inspired film, "Across the Universe."

During the 2010s, Dana Fuchs found a home on the blues label Ruf Records, where she delivered standout albums like "Bliss Avenue" in 2013 and the soulful "Love Lives On" in 2018, inspired by the sounds of Memphis. She kicked off the new decade with her fifth studio album, "Borrowed Time," released in 2022.

The opening acts will be Jonathon “Boogie” Long, who has shared the stage with B.B. King, Joe Bonamassa, Gregg Allman, ZZ Top, Robert Cray, and many more. His 4-album discography, two of which landed him on the Billboard Top 10 Blues albums, spans a wide range of musical flavors. Jonathan "Boogie" Long is a talented musician hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. With a passion for blues and roots music that runs deep, Boogie has carved out a remarkable career in the music industry. Known for his soulful guitar skills and gritty vocals, he's become a prominent figure in the contemporary blues scene.

Boogie's musical journey began at a young age, and he quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent. Over the years, he has honed his craft, drawing inspiration from blues legends and infusing his own unique style into the genre. His performances are a captivating blend of traditional blues with a modern edge.

With a growing discography and a reputation for electrifying live shows, Jonathon "Boogie" Long continues to make waves in the world of blues music. His dedication to the art form and his ability to connect with audiences through his music have solidified his status as a respected blues artist. Whether he's on stage or in the studio, Boogie's music is a testament to his love for the blues and his commitment to keeping this timeless genre alive and well.

And before Long gets on stage it'll be Big Ron Betts, who won the OBBS Central Florida Blues Challenge in 2021.

This event, sponsored by Trustco Bank and the Orange Blossom Blues Society features music, food trucks, art exhibits and vendors. The event also will highlight some of the best craft beers available.
