SAXOPHONIST & COMPOSER DAVE PIETRO APPEARS AT
USF
w/ USF Jazz Ensemble at Monday Night Jazz February 10, 2020
DAVE PIETRO, a leading saxophonist and composer on the New
York scene for more than three decades, will be featured with the USF
Jazz Ensemble at the next Monday Night Jazz concert, on February 10
at 7:30 p.m. These monthly programs take place in the USF Concert
Hall, presented by the USF School of Music and the Tampa Jazz Club.
In addition to several critically-acclaimed recordings with
his own groups, Pietro has a remarkable history with jazz orchestras,
working with the bands of Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Maynard
Ferguson, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, as well as a decade as
lead alto with the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra. He presently
divides his time among three of the top large ensembles, the
Grammy-winning Darcy James Argue Secret Society, Grammy-nominated
Maria Schneider Orchestra, and the Gil Evans Project.
Pietro is also on the faculty at NYU, and his talents as an
artist and educator have led to performances in more than 30
countries. His Monday Night Jazz visit, a brief residency that includes
rehearsals and master classes as well as the February 10 concert, is
eagerly anticipated by the talented members of USF’s own top jazz
orchestra, the USF Jazz Ensemble.
