It will be an all-star tribute to the sound of the
saxophone, when Harry Allen presents The Four
Others, in a Tampa Jazz Club concert in the
Mainstage Theater at HCC/Ybor City, on Sunday,
April 8. Specifically, the 3pm concert is a re-
creation of the glory days of Woody Herman’s
‘Four Brothers,’ the saxophone section in his
famed ‘Second Herd,’ which dazzled listeners
beginning in 1947.

That distinctive sound, with sensational
harmonies among three tenors and one baritone
saxophonist, was heard on Harry Allen’s 2016
Arbors Records cd, ‘The Candy Men.’ For this
Tampa concert, Harry is joined on tenor by Lew
del Gatto (veteran of major big bands, decades in
NY studios, and founding member of SNL Band)
and Jeff Rupert (University of Central Florida
[UCF] Jazz Studies Director, with sensational
recent recordings and concert appearances),
along with baritone saxophonist Saul Dautch
(from UCF and the Flying Horse Big Band). The
band is rounded out by Florida artists known
throughout the jazz world, all TJC favorites:
pianist Richard Drexler, bassist Don Mopsick, and
drummer Ed Metz, Jr.

Writer C. Michael Bailey said Harry Allen is “a
practitioner of such dense talent he sounds as if
he invented tenor saxophone performance,
instead of Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young.”
Harry has shared the message of jazz with
listeners throughout the world for decades,
including appearances in St. Petersburg and
Sarasota in recent years, sharing the stage with
Grant Stewart, Rebecca Kilgore, and Nate Najar.

The Tampa Jazz Club is very proud to present the
first Bay Area appearance by this extraordinary
band, Harry Allen’s Four Others!
