On Wednesday, March 14, the

Harris Trio, as part of the Society’s jazz concert series. The

Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at
7:45pm. Single tickets are available for $55 per person. Students

The Loston Harris Trio is a
fixture in the New York City jazz scene and for more than a decade Harris has
headlined at the legendary Bemelmans Bar located in The Carlyle Hotel in
Manhattan’s storied Upper East Side. This “home” is where a bevy of great
cabaret and jazz greats have performed for decades. His piano
playing has been described as "percussive" with "incredibly
fluid" and his vocals noted as "suave." Jazz guru
Michael Feinstein says that Harris’s music is “a combination of humanity and
genius.”
Originally Harris studied
music as a drummer and didn’t seriously approach the piano until his 20s.
After meeting Harry Connick Jr. at the 1st Thelonious Monk Jazz
Competition in Washington, D.C., Harry introduced Loston to his mentor, Ellis
Marsalis. Marsalis encouraged Loston to switch instruments from the drums
to the piano. And the rest of the story became history. Harris has also
performed and toured with Wynton Marsalis and appeared worldwide on the PBS
special "Portraits in Blue" with fellow pianist and Grammy Nominee,
Marcus Roberts. His piano playing has been described as
"percussive" with "incredibly fluid" and his vocals noted
as "suave."
Loston has five albums to his
credit - Stepping Stones, Comes Love, Timeless, and Why
Try to Change Me Now. His most recent release, Swingfully Yours, is
on the Magenta Label Group and includes arrangements of timeless standards from
the Great American Songbook. Swingfully Yours embraces the music
of George Gershwin, Harold Arlen and Sammy Cahn. To view an interview

UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

An Evening with the Four Freshmen
It all started in 1948, when four college freshmen crafted a unique style of vocal harmony that soon caught the ear of the great bandleader Stan Kenton. With over 75 albums, 70 top selling singles and 6 Grammy Nominations, this fab four have toured constantly since their inception, continuing to perform to sold-out audiences around the globe. The integrity of the sound created by the original guys has been meticulously maintained. Die-hard fans and former members alike have agreed that the current lineup; Bob Ferreira, Tommy Boynton, Stein Malvey and Curtis Calderon, are second to none.
