Sunshine Jazz Organization (SJO) is very pleased to announce the featured artists for our 2017 Music in the Park concert presented on Friday, December 1st. Magnificent vocalist Carole Ann Taylor & her Quartet, along with Dr. Edward Robbinson & The Instant Attraction Band will perform for this bi-annual community event co-sponsored by The Sunshine Jazz Organization with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, the Miami-Dade Parks Foundation, Miami Gardens Councilman David Williams Jr., and the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Department.
This popular concert series presents regional and international Jazz and Blues artists twice per year on the first Fridays in May and in December. World class musicians perform for the whole family under the stars and FREE of charge at the Amphitheatre behind The Betty T. Ferguson Recreation Complex in Miami Gardens. This is an opportunity for all ages to experience the arts, music and culture live and up close in their own community. Past performers have included Melton Mustafa, Jesse Jones, Jr., Alice Day, Ronda Ross (daughter of Diana) with Rodney Kendrick, Joey Gilmore, George Tandy, Jr., Rochelle Lightfoot, Brenda Alford, Ike & Valerie Woods and Yvonne Brown.
Carole Ann Taylor was the recipient of a five year contract from Duke Ellington and studied under Ellington’s vocal coach, Luther Henderson. She has performed with numerous Jazz greats including Lionel Hampton, Cedar Walton and Buck Clayton, and South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame recipients - Pete Minger, Eric Knight, Billy Rolle, Jimmy Crawford, Don Mosely and Ray Ray. Ms. Taylor appears regularly at The Betsy Hotel, and her quartet will include international percussion master, Bobby Thomas, Jr. and piano prodigy, Tal Cohen. Dr. Edward G. Robbinson is a respected Miami-Dade School Administrator, Teacher and Music Education leader. His group, The Instant Attraction Band performs every 4th Friday at Miami’s Historic Hampton House.
