The monthly Sunshine Jazz Concert Series continues on Sunday February 26th with an appearance by the internationally acclaimed blues master, Mr. Joey Gilmore. In the words of our own China Valles The Mahj, “THE BLUES, The backbone of America’s music”, and nobody does it better than Joey Gilmore!
Joshua “Joey” Gilmore was born in Ocala, FL. An electric blues and soul blues singer, songwriter and guitarist, Gilmore has shared the stage with James Brown, Etta James, Bobby Bland, Little Milton, and Little Johnny Taylor among many others. His love for the guitar began in his teens, inspired by the local barber and minister who played a flat body, electric guitar with no amplifier. He hung around the barbershop and by watching and listening he learned to play the guitar and gained a reputation as a talented boy.
Since those early days, Joey has established himself as a Florida legend and a highlight at blues festivals and night clubs all over the world where he’s considered among the best soul blues and R&B singers in the business. In 2006 Joey Gilmore won one of the most distinguished and internationally coveted awards in all of blues, the IBC. He outscored all artists worldwide while showcasing his amazing talent at a blues industry event…In 2008 he was handed the Blewzzy Award for best song, BLUES ALL OVER YOU.
