The Road Goes On....
The North Central Florida Blues Society’s 2016 Women in Blues: Past to Present, an Historical Perspective will take a trip through music history, from 1910 to present, with a musical review of women’s place in Blues. Originally held as part of the monthly Blues Jam in May of each year at the Dirty Bar in Gainesville, this year’s offering expands the programming not only to a new venue but brings even more talented Blues singers to the stage.
For the first time this year, 13 women from three states will present this historical revue on Saturday, May 21st, 2016 at the Great Outdoors Restaurant, 65 North Main Street, High Springs and Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 at the Dirty Bar, 2441 NW 43rd Street, Suite 26B, Gainesville, from 7pm to 10pm each evening.
This year’s showcase includes national touring acts Niecie (Detroit,MI) and Patti Parks (Buffalo, NY), as well as Kim Reteguiz (Jacksonville, FL) and Maggie McKinney (Panama City, FL), and nine of Alachua County’s better known Blues performers: Barbara Paul, Becky Sinn, Bridget Kelly, Anna Marie, Cassie Keenum, Cherie Cray, Deby Starr, Michelle Banfield, and Nicole Wagner.
Performances will include artist standards and original material. There is no cover charge for these events. Reservations are recommended for the Great Outdoors performance as seating is limited.
