On Friday, January 15, 2016, the Gold Coast Jazz Society will present the John Pizzarelli Quartet. The concert takes place at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at 7:45pm. Single tickets are available for $55 per person. Students and teacher tickets are $10 with valid ID. To purchase tickets call the Broward Center AutoNation Box Office at 954-462-0222, online at www.browardcenter.org or www.goldcoastjazz.org
Pizzarelli, a world-renowned jazz guitarist and singer, was called “Hip with a wink” by Town & Country, “madly creative” by the Los Angeles Times and “the genial genius of the guitar” by The Toronto Star. An entire family of jazz stars, the Pizzarelli family has been labeled “the First Family of Cool.” John will be joined by his brother, Martin Pizzarelli, on bass, Kevin Kanner on drums and Konrad Paszkudzki on piano.
John Pizzarelli is considered to be one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook. He has stretched that repertoire to include the music of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Lennon-McCartney. His themed shows, often performed with his wife Jessica Molaskey, suggest there is no limit to Pizzarelli’ s imagination or talent. Pizzarelli brings to his work the cool jazz flavor of his brilliant guitar playing and singing.
In September, Pizzarelli released Midnight McCartney, a recording on Concord Records which features the solo work of Sir Paul McCartney. McCartney asked Pizzarelli to “reimagine” and “re-record” several of McCartney’s lesser-known tunes and former Beatles tunes.
In addition to being a bandleader and solo performer, John has been a special guest on recordings for major pop and other jazz artists. He has also recorded with his father, the legendary jazz guitarist, Bucky Pizzarelli.
