Songwriters can share their musical skills and help raise
money for a good cause—our drinking water—by participating in the 6th
annual Santa Fe Riverfest, being held April 17, 2016.
Our Santa Fe River, Inc. (OSFR), a non-profit organization
working to protect the aquifer, springs and waters in this area, is sponsoring
the songwriting contest and music festival. It will be held at Rum 138, located
west of High Springs (corner of C.R. 138 and Rum Island Terrace) (MAP), and hosted by
WKTK host Storm Roberts.
“We encourage all songwriters to write a song about the
river and share their talents with our community. We are especially excited
about this next festival. It will be bigger and more substantial, with a band,
family activities, food and drinks, and first-rate silent auction gifts,” said
Pam Smith, president of OSFR. “We hope more songwriters will participate this
year. Everyone is so appreciative of their efforts and truly enjoys the music.”
Songwriters should submit a MP3 about the Santa Re River no
later than March 1 to info@ourSantaFeRiver.org. Judges will look for
originality, quality of lyrics, melody and performance. The finalists will take
the stage during the afternoon and will have an opportunity to win the $300
first place prize. Each finalist will receive a professional video of their
performance, which also will be placed on YouTube.
Publisher's Note - Jazz Blues Florida had the opportunity of attending this event in 2013 and it was a most EXCELLENT day! The only thing that would have made it better was to have arrived very early that day to take a river trip prior to the music! Here is the blog about the day: http://jazz-bluesflorida.blogspot.com/2013/10/131006-santa-fe-river-song-contest.html
