In an effort to pay homage to, show appreciation for, and pay tribute to some of South Florida ’s legendary and truly extraordinary Jazz personalities; both past & present, the South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame was established in January 2009. The first induction ceremony took place June of that same year with Julien “Cannonball” Adderly, Charles “China” Valles, Jesse Jones, Jr., Othello Molineaux, Lenny Zeif, Alice Day, and the late Chief Sandrell Rivers being the first group of inductees. Recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of these outstanding individuals was the brain child of famed international recording artist and world class jazz diva, Ms. Alice Day. It was designed as a mere “thank you” to honor those who made and make it possible for the continuance of jazz, noting the impact their contributions have made in the Jazz world, on these South Florida Shores, and on the world stage. The South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame has a very short history, but the future will take a lot longer…
“We are excited to celebrate these awesome masters of a truly American Classical art form, Jazz”, said Alice Day, International Recording Artist, Founder and Chairperson of the South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame. “This year’s inductees are some of South Florida ’s legends; local pioneers who have paved the way for present and future musicians to play and progress in the world of Jazz. I am truly humbled by the awesome contributions my gifted colleagues have made, aiding in the preservation and authenticity of Jazz locally and for many of them, nationally and internationally. We invite and encourage the community to come out and be a part of history as we salute these great individuals for their achievements and tireless work,” Day added.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn’t, like to be removed from this list, please reply with
REMOVE in subject line. It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the
one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will
go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to
play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call…..
