WOMEN IN JAZZ ENSEMBLE
SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 2009 @ 3-5 p.m.
African American Research Library and Cultural Center 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311
Professional, world-renown vocalists Jus' Cynthia, Sandra Kaye and Diva Joan Cartwright work with a jazz quartet with show, WOMEN IN JAZZ ON TOUR. The general public is invited to fill the 300-seat auditorium at AARLCC, during two, one-hour rehearsal/workshops, where the 8-member ensemble explore the lives of 11 women who brought jazz and blues music to the forefront of American popular culture and around the world. The women they portray include Bessie Smith, Marylou Williams, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.
Women in Jazz South Florida, Inc. is a non-profit organization that promotes women musicians, globally, through contacts, articles, interviews, newsletters, events, courses, clinics, workshops, lectures, research, history, archives, websites, film, audio and video recording, concerts, performances and recognition.
