Gafieira Rio Miami is a vibrant and high-energy 11-piece Brazilian big band that masterfully blends the sounds of samba, jazz, and soul into a uniquely infectious musical experience. Inspired by the grand ballroom traditions of Rio de Janeiro, the group brings together top South Florida musicians to reinterpret and celebrate Brazil’s rich musical heritage. With bold horns, rhythmic percussion, and powerful vocals, Gafieira Rio Miami creates a sound that’s both deeply rooted in tradition and refreshingly modern.

Led by bassist and musical director Diogo Brown, the band has quickly become a standout on the South Florida music scene, performing at major events and venues while earning praise for their dynamic arrangements and irresistible grooves. Their performances often transform concert halls into joyful dance floors, inviting audiences to experience the rhythm and spirit of Brazil in full swing. Gafieira Rio Miami returns to the stage on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 8PM for a special one-night-only concert at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC’s Alan and Diane Lieberman Theater, located at 18900 NE 25th Ave., North Miami Beach, FL 33180. The Jazz Journalists Association has announced its 2025 Jazz Heroes—29 remarkable individuals across North America who are making powerful contributions to the jazz world as educators, organizers, presenters, and advocates. Among them is Wes Lowe of West Palm Beach, Florida, honored for his visionary leadership and outstanding impact as a music educator and community builder. As Director of Instrumental Arts at The King’s Academy, Lowe has transformed the school's jazz program into a nationally recognized force, while creating real-world opportunities for young musicians and championing the legacy of jazz in South Florida.
