GOLD COAST FACEBOOK
Fort Lauderdale Visitor Information

The Gold Coast Jazz Society is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of jazz music through a mainstage concert series, free community concerts, educational programs, a jazz scholarship program and musical services provided by the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band.

Gold Coast Jazz Society History
Frederick G. Ruffner, Jr. had a vision to bring more jazz to the “Gold Coast” area of South Florida.  In 1992, Fred and a group of avid jazz buffs made this vision a reality by forming a non-profit organization called the Gold Coast Jazz Society in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Following its formation, the GCJS developed a concert series, which was presented in the main dining room of the historic Riverside Hotel, located on the famous Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.  As the concert series continued to grow and expand, a larger venue was required.  The concert series was eventually moved to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located in the Arts & Science District of Fort Lauderdale.  Today, the seven-concert jazz series continues to be presented in the Amaturo Theater each year from November through May.  Over the years the Society has grown and expanded to include the presentation of jazz education and community outreach activities, the Jeanette M. Russell Jazz Scholarship Program, and many special events throughout the year.

Chicago Bluesman Wayne Baker Brooks and His Band Wrap Up Florida Tour With Two Christmas Week Shows

View as web page.
A TRUE CHICAGO BLUES
EXPERIENCE!

Prepare for a night of unforgettable blues as Chicago Blues Hall of Fame inductee Wayne Baker Brooks and his powerhouse band (Brooks – Lead Vocals and Guitar, Jaymo Wilson – Bass, Dionte McMusick – Drums) bring their talent to Florida this December. With a commanding stage presence, soulful vocals, and blazing guitar skills, Brooks leads his band in performances that honor the deep roots of Chicago blues while pushing the genre into exciting new territory.

Wayne Baker Brooks is not only one of today’s top guitarists but also the cover feature of the final issue of *Jazz & Blues Florida*, making this tour even more special. His signature sound—marked by powerful vocals and a “liquid fire” approach to guitar—blends traditional blues with modern innovation, delivering a show that’s both timeless and fresh.

Born and raised in Chicago, Brooks grew up surrounded by blues legends. His formative years included visits to iconic venues such as Chess Studios, the Checkerboard Lounge, and Wise Fools Pub, where he witnessed performances by Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Luther Allison, Koko Taylor, and even the great Muddy Waters. As the youngest son of blues master Lonnie Brooks, Wayne was literally born into the blues. Together with his band, he carries forward this rich legacy with passion, authenticity, and an energy that ignites every stage they play.

Don’t miss your chance to experience this blues powerhouse and his band live during their Florida tour. Whether you're a longtime fan of Chicago blues or new to the scene, Wayne Baker Brooks and his band promise a show that will resonate long after the final note.
