The Blues are the roots of African American music today. On The Patio, the bi-monthly series features local and regional Blues artists. This series will provide a network of association for area Blues lovers and build upon the Blues Education program by encouraging youth participation. Admission is FREE!

Sheba’s music draws from her life experience from hurt and pain, addressing universal themes people can understand. Sheba was born Martha Booker in Sunflower Mississippi to a sharecropper family, whose father was a gospel singer.  Sheba’s most recent album on Bongo Boy Records This is the Blues  was on the Roots Music Report for over a year after its release.

Appearing with Sheba is Dr. Jules. Dr. Jules Gliesche is a part-time Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Florida specializing in Historical Germanic Linguistics.  He is a strong proponent of keeping the Blues alive by actually playing the Blues, and also devotes significant time to studying the history of the Blues and highlighting the musical contributions and innovations of original Blues artists whose work has been borrowed without giving them either proper credit or financial compensation.

Joining the show is harmonica player Little David Thornton.  Little David Thornton discovered Blues from his father’s record collection when he was only 6 years old, and also learned harmonica from him, who was known as Big Dave. Thornton’s top influences are Little Walter and Paul Butterfield.
