Generation Y is a quintet full of the most dynamic young jazz musicians on the scene under 30 years old. This is a diverse group of musicians dedicated to the evolution of jazz music; paying homage to its early roots while fearlessly propelling the music forward.

Ulysses Owens Jr. has been the driving force behind great artists such as Nicholas Payton, Christian McBride, Wynton Marsalis, Mulgrew Miller, and many others. Through his relationship with these great bandleaders, they taught him a great deal about Art Blakey and Betty Carter, both of whom had bands that became educational institutions and launched the careers of many of today's paradigm-shifting musicians on the jazz scene. In the past five years, Ulysses career has shifted him from being a "young lion" to grooming the next generation of talent via his performance, production, and educational career. "Generation Y" is the full circle brought to life on stage where Ulysses has selected a new crop of a talent from his professorship at The Juilliard School, and young musicians he has discovered.

Sarah Hanahan is an up-and-coming jazz saxophonist in New York City and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Jazz performance at The Juilliard School. Drew Anderson who hails from Virginia and a recent graduate of The New School, is incredibly soulful and is very quickly echoing the influences of the Late Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, and will be regarded as part of the lineage of great trumpet players. In the rhythm section, Ulysses met Luther Allison at the Brevard Summer Jazz Institute and was very impressed by his talent and ethic. He is a recent graduate of Michigan State University, under the direction of great educator and bassist Rodney Whitaker. Lastly Philip Norris who has been touring and working with Ulysses for a few years, in between his current studies at The Juilliard School, is quickly becoming one of the most in demand young bassists in New York City.

Personnel:
