Tampa Jazz Club and HCC/Ybor
Performing Arts Series Presents:
Featuring Richard Drexler & Marty Morell
Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 3pm
The Tampa Jazz Club is proud to present an afternoon of Jazz and
Great American Songbook standards by three of Florida’s most renowned
musicians, when the MICHAEL ROYAL TRIO, featuring RICHARD DREXLER and
MARTY MORELL performs on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 3pm. The concert, part of
the HCC Visual & Performing Arts Series, takes place in the
Mainstage Theatre at HCC/Ybor City.
The members of this trio share deep experience in the jazz
world, sharing the stage internationally with the greatest performers.
Tampa native MICHAEL ROYAL is a hard-driving pianist deeply rooted in
the jazz tradition, while having a sensitive and sophisticated touch
that reflects his classical training. He has appeared with Ira
Sullivan, Mel Lewis, Mark Murphy, and John Lamb among many others.
Both RICHARD DREXLER and MARTY MORELL are faculty members at the
University of Central Florida in Orlando, and members of The Jazz
Professors, who have been heard widely on jazz radio coast to coast.
Richard Drexler, whose compositions include chamber and symphonic works
along with dozens of jazz pieces, has for years been in high demand
throughout the Florida jazz scene, playing both bass and piano. And
Marty Morell, a brilliant all-around percussionist, was the drummer for
the famed Bill Evans Trio from 1968-74. In addition to teaching at UCF,
he currently leads an exciting Latin Jazz Ensemble with his wife,
Michiko.
It’s a rare thing for these three musicians - all long-time
favorites of Tampa Jazz Club audiences – to come together. Don’t miss
the chance to join them for an afternoon of bebop, ballads, and blues
in a beautiful setting in Ybor City!
