Sunshine Jazz Welcomes the New Year with Jazz Vocalist LeNard Rutledge w/ Orta, Orta, Caze & Cotman

Sunshine Jazz Concert Series Presents
LeNard Rutledge,
Backed By Miami's
World-Class Jazzmen!

Sunday, January 22, 2017 ~ 6-9pm

SJO kicks off the new year with more South Florida world class Jazz! Our monthly Concert Series, presented at Miami Shores Country Club every fourth Sunday, is always a “musical high” and January’s artists will be no exception. SJO proudly presents Jazz vocalist extraordinaire, LeNard Rutledge, along with his fabulous band:  Michael Orta on Piano, Nicky Orta on Bass, James Cotmon on Drums, and Jean Caze on Trumpet. The world class ensemble will take the stage from 6:00pm-9:00pm.

LeNard Rutledge, born and raised in Miami, Florida where there are only a handful of truly great jazz vocalists, is usually compared, aptly, to the legendary Lou Rawls. He began his vocal career in 1997 when he was asked to join the famed Melton Mustafa Orchestra, and he became the featured vocalist for seven years. LeNard has also shared the stage with a number of highly respectable jazz artists such as: Wycliffe Gordon, Kenny Drew Jr., Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kirk Whalum, Marion Meadows and the late George Duke.

Aptly described by The Miami Herald as an artist blessed with, “the warmth of Tony Bennett, the bite and rhythmic sense of Sinatra, and the sly elegance of Nat ‘King' Cole,” the ample and aural evidence of Harris’ moving and magisterial artistry can be heard on his ten recordings as a leader; his far-flung and critically-acclaimed concerts around the world, from Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, and Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, to the 2012 London Olympics, and a number of prestigious bookings in Europe, The Middle East and Asia, and his numerous awards, which include the New York Nightlife Award for “Outstanding Jazz Vocalist” – which he won three times – the Backstage Bistro Award for “Ongoing Achievement in Jazz,” and the Harlem Speaks “Jazz Museum of Harlem Award.”
