The Sunshine Jazz Organization is again proud to co-sponsor the installment of the very important tribute founded by international recording artist, Jazz vocalist and SJO founding member, Ms. Alice Day. Please join us for this evening devoted to honoring our community’s contribution to Jazz history.

“The South Florida Jazz Hall Of Fame finally became a reality in January 2009. After being so long overdue, the work actually began. In an effort to pay homage to, show appreciation for, and pay tribute to some of South Florida’s legends, present and past, on the stage and behind the scenes, this is a mere “thank you”. We honor those who made/make it possible for us to participate and prosper, and those who have made an impact in the world of Jazz on these South Florida shores, and on the world stage.

We are proud of our heritage and of the contributions South Florida has made and continues to make for the preservation and authenticity of a culture, of a people, and of America’s classical music, Jazz. Although we feel this acknowledgement is gaining ground, it was, as stated above, long past due. We have so many who are deserving of this distinction, so we can look forward to many more induction ceremonies.

This year we celebrate these esteemed honorees for the 9th
induction –chosen in the year 2017:
1. Dr. Joan Cartwright - Vocalist, Author, Educator
2. Michael Factor - Entrepreneur, Jazz Historian
3. Mo Morgen - Multi Instrumentalist, Entrepreneur
4. Ralph Clark* - Flautist, Photographer, SJO Director
5. The Jack Dunn (Trio)
Jack Dunn* - Drums/Shop Keeper
Kermit Cooper* - Bass/Vocals
Noel Cruz* - Piano
*Posthumously

Please join the South Florida Jazz community as we bear witness to this wonderful and historic annual event on Sunday, July 22nd, 2018 at Miami Shores Country Club. The festivities will be presented from 6:00PM until 9:00PM , and reservations are suggested. Be prepared to have a very good time – eat, drink, be merry and honor those who have kept, and keep, the Jazz flame burning!"

The Sunshine Jazz Organization was founded in 1986 in Miami, Florida by a group of Jazz lovers, musicians, educators and supporters including Jazz radio icon, the late Charles “China” Valles. Our common denominator was, and is, love and respect for JAZZ - America’s indigenous, classical music. Thirty years later the SJO continues to present concerts, workshops, showcases and educational presentations. We co-sponsor several community events each year which offer accessibility of live Jazz and cultural arts at no cost to all ages in our community. The support of our members and sponsors keeps the busy SJO Jazz train rolling and is deeply appreciated!
