Jesse Jones Jr. at Jazz at the J in North Miami Beach November 7, 2024

An Evening of
Jivin' w/ Jesse Jones Jr at
Jazz at the J!
you to a Night Of Jazz At The J with a special performance by
South Florida Jazz Icon
JESSE JONES JR
&
The Jesse Jones Quartet

Miami native Jesse Jones Jr. is a powerhouse of South Florida’s jazz scene, known for his electrifying saxophone performances and dynamic stage presence. Having first fallen in love with the saxophone listening to Cannonball Adderley albums as a child, Jesse went on to hone his craft at Mississippi Valley State University, later joining the U.S. Navy Show Band where he developed his magnetic showmanship. A virtuoso on alto, soprano, and baritone saxophones—as well as the flute—Jesse seamlessly combines the hard-bop soul of Cannonball Adderley, the funk of Hank Crawford, and the warmth of Paul Desmond, crafting a style all his own.

In addition to his technical prowess, Jesse’s performances are marked by an engaging, crowd-pleasing energy, enhanced by his spontaneous humor and unique “scat” singing style through his horn. He has played with legends like Donald Byrd, Dexter Gordon, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Dr. Lonnie Smith, to name a few, and continues to captivate audiences with his quartet, where his innovative arrangements and soulful interpretations of jazz classics shine.

Jesse Jones Jr. remains one of Florida’s jazz treasures, filling every performance with passion, gratitude, and a love for the music he shares with his loyal fans.

His signature style weaves classical, jazz, blues, boogie-woogie, stride, and pop into a rich and vibrant sonic tapestry. “The paucity of jazz vibraphonists may be due in part to the complexity of mastering an instrument that’s like a hybrid of drums, percussion and piano. Notwithstanding, one of the instrument’s brightest stars is Baltimore native Warren Wolf.”  - All About Jazz
