Tigertail's 30th Anniversary Season of Art and Soul

(MIAMI, FL – August 10, 2009) Bringing the best of global performance and literary arts to Miami for three decades, today Tigertail Productions announced a 30th season that speaks to the region's multicultural identity in playful, inspiring and challenging ways. The arts organization revealed a 2009/2010 agenda of art and soul – careening from Dutch jazz to incred-Able dance, spoken word, Delta blues, venerated virtuoso guitar and acclaimed Catalonian culture.

And while bringing the world to South Florida, Tigertail is also fostering area artists, building youth projects, producing community residencies and commissioning new work.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 7:00-9:00pm: Known for memorable celebrations, Tigertail's 30th Season Kick-Off Party will overtake the chic new urban River Lounge in the Epic Hotel, at the mouth of the Miami River (former Dupont Plaza location). Preview our upcoming events, enjoy music, video, special surprises and complimentary drinks while taking in the dashing view of the Miami River and Biscayne Bay. RSVP not necessary, but capacity is limited.

October 15, 2009, 7:30pm: Books & Books, Coral Gables, will host a free book launch and reading of Tigertail, A South Florida Poetry Annual. This 7th edition, subtitled "Three by Three", is edited by Denise Duhamel, Michael Hettich and Campbell McGrath - each of whom selected one poet. The poets are Jill M. Allen, Yahya Frederickson and Hugo Rodriguez.

October 24, 2009, 8:30pm: The Byron Carlyle Theater in Miami Beach will come alive with an incredible free jazz trio, The Third Man, from Amsterdam. Tigertail brings this new group – with Han Bennink on drums, Michael Moore on reeds and Will Holshouser on accordion – to Miami as part of a 10-city tour of the U.S.

December 28, 2009 - January 3, 2010. The 10th annual danceAble, a Tigertail/Florida Dance Association (FDA) event for able and non-able dancers, takes place within the FDA WinterFest. The two organizations are part of a multi-site commissioning project whereby New York City-based choreographer David Dorfman is setting a new work on the leading U.S. mixed-ability group: AXIS Dance Company. In addition to this new work, AXIS will be in residence and will perform Vessel by Alex Ketley.

January 24-30, 2010: Tigertail presents our fourth annual SpeakOut project for GLBT teens. This year we are bringing Regie Cabico, a writer/playwright and spoken word artist who will be in residence working with GLBT teens at Miami Dade Public Schools and Pridelines.

February 20, 2010, 8:30pm: Enjoy Tigertail's evening of Mississippi Delta blues at the Colony Theatre, Miami Beach, with David "Honeyboy" Edwards, a 94-year-old Grammy-award-winning blues guitarist – one night only.

March 20, 2010, 8:30pm: The brilliant virtuoso guitarist Leo Kottke performs solo – one night only at the Colony Theatre, Miami Beach.

April 4-10, 2010: Tigertail presents Catalonia Days, a series of events that focus on Catalán food and culture. Wait for coming detail on Catalonia Days, featuring new Spanish cuisine from Barcelona, new architecture in Spain, fashion, a look at the influence of Antonio Gaudí and Salvador Dalí, and more. As part of the series, on April 9 & 10, 2010, 8:30pm, at the Colony Theatre, Miami Beach, Tigertail presents a stunning, young, dance group from Barcelona. Alta Realitat, performing Ölelés, a dance piece at once gripping, physically intense and genuinely lyrical by acclaimed Catalan choreographers and performers Jordi Cortés and Damián Muñoz – two of Spain's most innovative young artists.

April 11-16, 2010: In the sixth annual nationally recognized WordSpeak project for inner city teens, Tigertail will bring actor, activist and spoken word artist Bobby LeFebre as artist in residence. Spoken word – what performers call "spitting" – includes workshops, slams, open mic sessions and rehearsals from January - July 2010.

May 15, 2010: Set aside the date of the next legendary annual Tigertail party for fun and fundraising.
