$15,000 In Jazz Scholarships To Be Awarded by Bob Washington Jazz Scholarship Award Program

2017 Jazz Scholarship Program
The Jazz Lovers’ and More Jazz Clubs of the
Villages, Florida, announce the 7th annual Bob Washington Jazz
Scholarship Award Program competition for jazz instrumentalists and
vocalists who are high schoolseniors, college freshmen, or sophomores.
We are keenly interested in those potential applicants who are determined to
advance their contribution to the preservation and evolution of what is
generally accepted, and defined, as “straight ahead” jazz music.
This year’s program will consist of six awards,
totaling $15,000 as follows:
The funds will be disbursed directly to the school
or equipment provider as warranted after proper documentation has been
completed. (Please see attachment.)
The finals will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017
at the Laurel Manor Recreation Center in The Villages. A rhythm section of
professional musicians will be provided. Finalists will only be
selected from CD’s tobe submitted by the applicants. (Please see
the attached application form.) While there are nospecifications as
to the diversity of the recorded material to be submitted, applicants should be
aware that at least two selections of different tempos are desired. In
addition, applications must besupplemented by at least one “Letter of
Reference” from a credible individual attesting to theapplicant’s
musicianship, character, and seriousness of the intention to the continuation
of jazzstudies. The references may be forwarded separately.
The Bob Washington Jazz Scholarship Committee,
representing nearly 1000 members of The Jazz Lovers’ and More Jazz Clubs of The
Villages, will appreciate sincerely your efforts to support this program
by giving it wide dissemination.
