The HOT JAZZ of the 1930’s and 40’s in Paris in Miami Beach Dec 11, 2016
The DJANGO REINHARDT FESTIVAL – a tribute to all things Hot Club – enters its 16th successful year with packed houses at its New York City home, the legendary music club Birdland. Subsequent editions have brought the Festival to California (Mill Valley) and the Pacific Northwest (Whidbey Island) each year. Now the Allstars bring an intimate music experience at the wonderful Faena Theater in Miami Beach.
The DJANGO FESTIVAL ALLSTARS, based in France, are the best players to emerge from the Festival, returning to NYC twice each year for 12 sold out shows. The Allstars follow in the Hot Club footsteps, taking the music beyond with original compositions, hip improvisations and some of Django’s lasting greats. They swing like crazy and will break your heart with a ballad. Guitar master Dorado Schmidt leads the Allstars, joined by Brian Torff (bass), Ludovic Beier (accordion), Samson Schmitt (guitar), Pierre Blanchard (violin), and Dou Dou Couillerier (guitar).
“A standout performance on the festival’s last day was by the Django Festival All-Stars, from France, who in their first appearance at Newport proved to be a crowd favorite and a top candidate for the hardest-swinging group at the fest. – Downbeat Magazine
This special event is presented by Rhythm Foundation in partnership with the Faena Theater.
