With the recent passing of legendary composer, flugelhornist, and two-time Grammy Award winner Chuck Mangione, the South Florida-based ensemble ABSTRACT CITIZEN, led by guitarist and composer Aaron Lebos, will honor his enduring legacy in a special concert performance celebrating the magic and emotion of Mangione’s music.

Mangione’s name became synonymous with the sound of accessible, melody-rich jazz that bridged popular and instrumental audiences alike. Best known for his 1978 crossover hit “Feels So Good,” which reached the Top 5 on the Billboard charts, Mangione brought warmth and lyrical grace to every note he played. Across a career spanning more than five decades, he recorded over 30 albums, from his early Mercury recordings to his acclaimed A&M releases that helped define the fusion era of the 1970s and ’80s.

Before his solo success, Mangione was a member of one of the most influential hard-bop groups in jazz history — Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers — where he played alongside such luminaries as Keith Jarrett and Woody Shaw. His deep understanding of composition and melody later led to numerous acclaimed works for film and television, as well as contributions to both the 1976 Montreal and 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Games, where his compositions were featured during the ceremonies.

This upcoming ABSTRACT CITIZEN performance will revisit many of Mangione’s signature works, blending the warmth of his flugelhorn sound with the group’s modern interpretation and vibrant energy. Under Aaron Lebos’s direction, the concert aims not only to pay tribute to a true jazz icon but also to reintroduce a new generation to the emotional sincerity and melodic brilliance that made Chuck Mangione’s music timeless. Artists joining Aaron are Jean Caze - Trumpet, Lucas Apostoleris  - Drums, and Marty Quinn - Bass.
